In Lombardy the olive tree was fisrt introduced during roman ages from colonies coming from Magna Grecia, mainly around the areas of the big lakes. The official name used today in the Lombardy territory for this oil is Extravirgin Olive Oli Lombardy Lakes. Como and Iseo Lakes are included in these lakes, while the Garda Lake uses the denomination Olio Garda DOP. The production yield is very low and the final product is a very delicate and elegant oil, whose aromas are subtle and of fresh grass , hay and artichoke, the colour ranges from green to yellow, the taste is fruity with sweet notes and an almond aftertaste.
Manestrini's success is due to its old origins which go back centuries. Some stones from the ancient building have been found which prove the presence of a mill which, from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century, stood in Valtenesi, a Franciscan monastery devoted to Saint Rocco. Afterwards, in 1960, a new mill was built manged by Egidio Manestrini, father of the company we know today. Today the company, specialize in the production of extra virgin Brescia-Garda olive oil, is run also by his daughter Nicoletta. Thanks to the great attention during the picking of the olives and the production of the oil, the company has achieved many regional and international awards.
