Friuli Venezia Giulia is a very favorable to viticulture region, the composition of the soil, the exposure of its slopes are ideal for the production of wine grapes. Friuli Venezia Giulia and more precisely the Collio region are world-wide famous for the production of Collio wine: elegant white, fresh with a strong mineral note and an incredible flavor that make it suitable to be matched with many dishes of the Italian tradition. Most grape varieties grown in this region are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and the indigenous Ribolla, Tocai among whites and Refosco, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc as red grapes.
Venica is one of the most famous companies in the Italian wine field. It is located in Dolegna del Collio in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. It is owned by Gianni, Giorgio and Giampaolo Venica who guide both the technical and managing aspects of the company. Venica was founded in 1930 when Daniele, Giampaolo's grandad, bought an estate made up of a colonial house and the sorrounding vineyards. Thanks to his great passion, his deep love for the area and his remarkable competence, Venica now owns 37 hectares of vines situated on the surrounding hills and produces 275.000 bottles per year. Today it is regarded as a high-standing wine in the Italian and the world wine scene.
