Cantina San Zenone is a modern winery located in Montenero di Bisaccia in Molise that owns more than 300 hectares of vineyards. The main varieties are: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano, Falanghina and Tintilia for the local varieties and Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco for the international varieties. In the last few years San Zenone winery gave a new and fresh profile to its wines by producing only single-variety wines and also by 'degreasing' the wines which age in oak. Today the winery produces only one 'Riserva' wine, the Pluris, that ages in oak. The local grape variety par excellence is the Tintilia and San Zenone winery decided to refine it only in steel tanks first and then for 2 years in the bottle. The vineyards are planted on gentle hills which face the Mediterranean coast. The main vine training systems are the 'tendone' system for the Montepulciano and Trebbiano, as tradition wants, and the guyot system for the other varieties except for the Tintilia that, thanks to several studies, it is now proved that the best system for this variety is the cordon spur pruning. Today the company produces traditional wines and it has also ready a wide variety of organic wines to be released on a near future, wines which are becoming more and more appreciated by conscious consumers. San Zenone winery is a great representative of the wines from Molise, a clear demonstration that also in this tiny region, viticulture and oenology have a starring role especially for their great value for money.
