The Brunello di Montalcino Castelgiocondo is made with 100% Montalcino Sangiovese grapes, from a very careful selection of the best Sangiovese vineyards of Castelgiocondo owned by Frescobaldi family. In 2012 vintage spring was rather rainy forcing the growers to many efforts to maintain the health status of the vegetation but at the same time acting as a water reservoir. June and July were characterized by higher temperatures which anticipated the development and ripening of the grapes. The end of the harvest of Sangiovese Castelgiocondo was in 9 October, the grapes are manually harvested, brought to the winery to be pressed, the bunches are then put in temperature controlled steel tanks where the alcoholic fermentation with maceration will last for about 4 weeks. Afterwards Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino Marchesi de Frescobaldi is separated from the skins and it is then put in French oak barriques and Slavonia oak barrels for the ageing that will last at least 2 years before blending, refinement in steel tanks and then bottling. According to the regulations, the bottles cannot be sold before a 4 month-bottle ageing.
