Amaro Averna is a bitter, liqueur that was born in Sicily in Caltanissetta in 1868 when in a monastery the monks produced this digestive jealously preserving the recipe. Frà Girolamo, inventor of Amaro Averna, decided to communicate his recipe to a textile merchant who was particularly popular in the monastery and who had done so much for the community: his name was Salvatore Averna. Since then the textile merchant was able to replicate with rigorous scrupulosity the precious recipe that had been communicated to him and began to produce this digestive. Amaro Averna is also produced today in Caltanissetta, even today that the brand was bought by the Campari group, always with the same ingredients.
